A four-year-old Vancouver maker with real retail and almost no digital footprint

Plantd started as Batch Skincare in June 2021: creams made fresh to order, no preservatives, keep it in the fridge. It renamed itself around 2023 and rebranded visually in August 2024. The Shopify store is still called batchskincare.

The founders

Shaune Bowers and Tricia Stevens "spent three decades inside The Body Shop and Lush Cosmetics. They worked the manufacturing floor. They campaigned for industry change." Tricia Stevens was Charitable Giving and Ethical Campaigns Manager at Lush North America. That pedigree is a genuine asset with US natural buyers, and it is invisible on every product page today.

What they make

  • Six hand and body creams on one 13-ingredient base, differing only by essential-oil scent. Nude is the unscented base. US$28.99 for 8 oz, US$14.99 for 2 oz.
  • A Discovery Set of six 2 oz jars (US$74.99) and two bundle pages that are currently broken.
  • A five-step facial line (balm, scrub, oil, day cream, night cream, US$54.99 to $59.99) launched 5 August 2026.

Everything is formulated and made in Vancouver. Leaping Bunny certified since 2023. Glass jars, aluminium lids, FSC paper labels.

Retail footprint: 160 doors, all in Canada

The store locator lists 160 doors in six provinces. The numbered banner names ("Fortinos …", "I.G.A. #16", "Pharmasave #017") look like an export from a Canadian natural-products distributor. We need to know which one, because it shapes the US conversation.

Review integrity, read before a US buyer does. 16 facial reviews arrived in the two months since launch, and 8 come from two names (four each). A burst of 10 unverified body-cream reviews landed between 29 April and 13 May 2025. Home-page testimonials feature launch-week facial reviews. None of this is an accusation, but Amazon and US buyers discount exactly these patterns. The body base needs volume from real US buyers.

The claim to fame, as Plantd states it

"Plant Powered, Purpose Driven." "Stay Rooted." In order of emphasis on the site:

  1. Organic, fair-trade, regenerative plant ingredients "sourced from people we know by name": the Arizona jojoba farmer, BC red seaweed, Alaskan kelp, Finnish mushrooms.
  2. Impact built in: kelp-forest restoration with veritree and First Nations, glass instead of plastic, Leaping Bunny.
  3. Made in Vancouver, Canada.
  4. Founder pedigree from The Body Shop and Lush.
  5. Texture: "Deep hydration, never greasy." The only claim customers repeat back unprompted.

Our honest verdict. Items one to four are values. They make a buyer feel good after she has decided, and every brand on a Whole Foods, Sprouts or Thrive shelf says some version of them. Several are weaker than they look: only 2 of 13 body-cream ingredients are certified organic (oat and agave) and the FAQ admits it; "no synthetic fragrance" sits next to vanillin; the kelp counter reads 2,500 of 10,000; the founder story never reaches a product page. Item five is the real, customer-proven product truth, and the site treats it as a spec line.

Name collisions to know about before US launch

Two other "Plantd" companies crowd search and the Meta Ad Library: a youth-sports tree-planting fundraiser (@plantdmovement, plantd.life, 30.8K followers, running ads now with hooks like "Embarrassed to bring up the fundraiser AGAIN?") and Plantd, the carbon-negative building-materials company that appears in Hampton ads. Use the full name "Plantd Skincare" for the Meta page and Amazon brand, and get a US trademark check before Brand Registry.
