13 · The plan

Fix first, earn on owned channels, then bring in distributors

The first 90 days fix what would waste money and start Meta, Amazon and Faire. Distributors follow once there is sell-through to show them; chain natural grocery comes after that.

Update from Plantd (after this research): Plantd is already listed with Lotus Light, which has moved almost no units, and there is no budget for a US broker. Read every Lotus Light step on this page as an existing listing that needs demand, not a future distributor. The no-broker plan is in the report's Distributors chapter.

Phase 0 · Fix and set up

Weeks 0–8 · about $10–25k excl. inventory Estimate

  • Remove drug-type claims; one guarantee; one shipping policy with US delivery times
  • Fix the sticky-bar price, the 2 oz button, both bundle pages; pool reviews; show the subscription
  • US label reprint: net weight, "Water (Aqua)", a US contact, no "organic" outside the ingredient list
  • Trademark filing and Brand Registry; fix the Spa 2 oz barcode
  • Customs broker, importer bond, USMCA certificate, a US 3PL
  • $2M product liability; US agent and MoCRA listing
  • Supplier origin documents, IFRA certificates, dating confirmed
  • Cost per SKU from Plantd
  • Prove the Purchase event; create the "Plantd Skincare" Facebook page

Phase 1 · Owned demand

Months 2–6 · about $40–80k, mostly ads and inventory Estimate

  • Meta to the US store: 4–6 of the 10 ads over three buyers, pain views on one product template, $100–150 a day to start Proposed
  • Amazon FBA: the 8 oz scent parent, the Discovery Set and the 3-pack; Vine, a 20% launch coupon, Sponsored Products $1.5–3k a month
  • Faire: marketplace plus Faire Direct, $150 opening minimum, about $500 a month in Faire ads
  • Post-purchase survey; film the fridge demo and the absorption test

Phase 2 · Named distributors

Months 6–12

  • Threshold, after the existing Lotus Light listing sells,, once US labels, insurance, a dating plan and a most-favoured-customer-safe price list are ready
  • Pair Threshold listings with Meta geo-targeting around the stores that carry Plantd
  • Thrive Market (RangeMe); Universal Companies for spa retail (Spa, Calm, minis)
  • Walk NY NOW (31 Jan–2 Feb 2027) and Expo West (March 2027)

Phase 3 · Chain natural and clean beauty

Months 12–24

  • Whole Foods, region first through LEAP, supplied by UNFI
  • Sprouts and Natural Grocers through UNFI or KeHE (KeHE's Canadian warehouses can serve home too)
  • Credo for the face line
  • Ulta and Target only with proven velocity and a promotion budget
Key risks and how to handle them
RiskMitigation
Cost too high for distribution (at $6+ a jar the 8 oz nets 29–39% gross margin)Stay weighted to direct, Amazon and Faire. Add a larger value size rather than cut the shelf price.
Tariff changes: +10% without USMCA; the +50% Section 338 list could growA USMCA certificate on every entry; keep the 3304.99 classification documented; hold 2–3 months of US stock.
Drug or organic claim enforcement (FDA refusal, warning letter, Amazon suppression)Rewrite claims in phase 0; one claims sheet shared by the site, Amazon and Meta.
Distributor deductions and cash tied upStart small with Lotus Light and Threshold; reconcile deductions monthly; delay UNFI and KeHE.
Most-favoured-customer conflicts with Faire or other distributorsOne distributor price list plus quantity tiers for direct stores.
Channel conflict from discounting below retailA minimum advertised price policy before wholesale; time-boxed coupons only.
