03 · Pain-point map

Thirty pains the range can answer. The site names none of them as a moment.

We mapped every credible pain to the formulas that answer it, rated the strength of each ingredient bridge, and checked whether plantdskincare.com says it today.

How much of it the site says today

"Said" means stated outright (gift and scent commitment, plastic, the non-greasy face oil, "rested-looking" morning skin), and even these four are written as features. "Feature or mood only" means it appears as "absorbs quickly" or "a moment of paradise". Thirteen pains never appear at all.

The five pains with the most evidence

  1. Greasy-lotion fatigue. "remains greasy for HOURS" (on Lush Charity Pot); "don't have to rub in forever". Bridge: the stearate base plus glycerin.
  2. Winter-dry, tight skin. "freezing cold … my savior"; "dry Colorado winter". Bridge: glycerin high in the list, cocoa butter, avocado oil, and the dermatologists' after-shower habit.
  3. Rough, cracked, sore-feeling hands that sting. "always complains about cremes stinging as they soak in, but NOT so with batch!" Bridge: humectant plus occlusive in a low-irritant base; Nude for the most reactive.
  4. Reactive, fragrance-sensitive skin and ingredient anxiety. "most have chemicals and scents that … cause irritation". Bridge: Nude's 13-ingredient, fragrance-free label.
  5. Tight, stripped face after cleansing, and oil cleansers that need cloths. "Usually I have to use toner, cotton, pads or a towel to remove, but not with this product." Bridge: a sunflower-oil-first balm with a glucoside emulsifier.

How to say it without a drug claim

Name the pain plainly. Keep the product bridge cosmetic: moisturise, soften, smooth, look, feel, comfort. Never claim to treat, heal, relieve or prevent a disease (eczema, psoriasis, milia, keratosis pilaris, dermatitis, sunburn) or to change skin structure (collagen, elastin, "repair"). A customer may describe her experience in a review; an ad may not adopt it as the brand's claim.

Weak bridges: do not lead with these

  • Keratosis pilaris ("strawberry legs"). No urea, lactic or salicylic acid in the range, which is what dermatologists recommend R14.
  • Eczema treatment. The oat is an extract, not monograph colloidal oatmeal, so the US over-the-counter claim is unavailable R6. "For very dry, eczema-prone skin" as a descriptor is fine.
  • Stretch marks. A randomised trial found cocoa-butter lotion does not prevent them R12.
  • Milia and "collagen". Customer-reported, unsupported, and a structure claim.
