The formulas pass most clean standards. The paperwork decides the rest.
We checked every Plantd ingredient list against the published standards of Whole Foods, Ulta, Target, Credo, Natural Grocers, Sprouts and Thrive Market.
Update from Plantd (after this research): Plantd is already listed with Lotus Light, which has moved almost no units, and there is no budget for a US broker. Read every Lotus Light step on this page as an existing listing that needs demand, not a future distributor. The no-broker plan is in the report's Distributors chapter.

Retailers and how to get in
| Retailer | Standard | What it means for Plantd | Entry route |
|---|---|---|---|
| Whole Foods Market | 240+ banned ingredients (parabens, phthalates, formaldehyde donors, oxybenzone, PFAS, EDTA). Organic claims on the front label need USDA or NSF/ANSI 305 certification. | Passes the current list. A legacy 2014 "Premium" list still hosted by Whole Foods marks 1,2-hexanediol and propanediol unacceptable and asks for proof vanillin is natural; whether buyers still apply it is unverified. No "organic" on the front of the jar. | Supplier portal and Potential Supplier form (no guaranteed reply); LEAP local and emerging accelerator in the home region; UNFI is Whole Foods' primary distributor until 2032. |
| Ulta Beauty | Conscious Beauty "Made Without" list; benzyl alcohol ≤1%; fragrance must meet IFRA and EU rules. | Pass. Confirm Love's benzyl alcohol is under 1% and get an IFRA certificate for each scent. | RangeMe. Note: the Ulta-at-Target shops end summer 2026. |
| Target | Target Clean: no phthalates, propyl- and butyl-parabens, formaldehyde donors, musks, siloxanes, PFAS and more. | Pass. Ambrette in Vacay is a natural seed oil, not a synthetic musk; be ready if asked. | Supplier Intake Form (insurance certificate, EDI, EFT). Target's accelerators do not take companies located outside the US. |
| Credo | June 2026 requirements: prohibited and restricted categories plus documentation. | No prohibited ingredient. Needs plant-origin statements (cetyl alcohol, the scrub's plankton extract), hexane-free statements for extracted oils, stability, preservative-efficacy and HRIPT testing, lot traceability. | Submit full ingredient lists to a merchant, then the brand standards survey. |
| Natural Grocers | Natural fragrances only; no vanillin or vanilla from GMO microorganisms; no petroleum by-products. | Vacay needs a vanillin source statement. Be ready to show bio-based origin for 1,2-hexanediol and propanediol. | Vendor page, non-food submission. |
| Sprouts | Proprietary; "hundreds of ingredients" prohibited; list not public. | Unknown until reviewed. | Body care follows a submission calendar; ingredient and allergen statements plus two retail-ready samples. |
| Thrive Market | 1,000+ restricted ingredients, parabens included; cruelty-free valued. | Likely pass Estimate; confirm against the current list. | RangeMe. Thrive buys direct; brands fund promotions and gifts with purchase. |

A Canadian brand that did it
Three Ships (Toronto, plant-based skincare) is in Whole Foods and 500+ Target stores. Before the January 2025 tariffs it pre-shipped three months of inventory to a Chicago warehouse. Its co-founder, on cross-border pricing: "Most retailers will mandate that you have to increase the price in both markets."
Majenye got into Whole Foods by handing out samples in stores and was stocked alongside local brands.
Insurance: retailers ask for commercial general liability including products, typically $1 million per occurrence and $2 million aggregate (Walmart's published standard), with the retailer named as additional insured. Threshold asks for $2 million per occurrence.
