05 · What makes Plantd special

The positioning we create

Nothing on the site tells a stranger what problem a jar solves, or why it beats the drugstore tub or the tallow balm she already tried. Here is the answer, built only from the formula and from customers' own words.

Plantd is the short-label cream for skin that's had enough: rich enough for a Canadian winter, gone before your sleeves are down, and nothing in it to react to.

What is actually special (evidence, not slogans)

Rich, never greasyThe most repeated idea in 134 reviews. A stearic-acid "vanishing cream" base sets to a dry touch while carrying glycerin, cocoa butter and avocado oil.
Nothing to react toNude: 13 ingredients, no fragrance, no essential oils. It answers both halves of the most intense pain cluster: it stings, or it's greasy.
Winter-provenMade in Vancouver, sold through Prairie and Ontario winters, reviewed in "freezing" weather and a "dry Colorado winter".
The cold-cream ritualCustomers keep it in the fridge for sore hands and hot-shower skin. A sensory demo no competitor owns, with zero claim risk, built for creator video.
Face: rinses like milkA balm that turns to milk and rinses with plain water, and a retinol-free night cream for skin that wakes up tight.

The parts of the position

  • Category we claim: the plant-based "moisturizer that actually works". The answer to the tallow wave without the beef fat, and to drugstore barrier creams without the grease.
  • Mechanism: "Dry-Touch Base" Proposed name, needs a trademark check. Moisture goes in; no film on sheets, phone or clothes.
  • US hero SKU: Nude 8 oz, fragrance-free: the Amazon and pharmacy-aisle wedge. The five scents carry the ritual and gifting line. The face line follows once the body line has US reviews.
  • Signature demo: the jar out of the fridge, onto steaming post-shower skin.
  • Organic, impact, kelp, glass: a reason to trust and to feel good, always underneath the pain, never the lead.

Proof to build in the next 60 days

  • A filmed absorption test: seconds until touch-dry on a forearm, Nude vs a whipped body butter, same amount, one take.
  • A count of "not greasy" in reviews: 16 of 134 say it unprompted today. Ask every new reviewer about feel.
  • One consumer-perception study per hero product (20–50 people, typical in this category) before any number goes in an ad.
  • The night-cream supplier dossier. The "+40% moisture at one hour" figure is for the mushroom complex, not the finished cream. Usable only once the test conditions are confirmed and labelled as ingredient testing.
  • A National Eczema Association Seal application for Nude is a candidate. Eligibility not yet checked Estimate.

Not greasy but still hydrating.

Thick enough to keep my body moisturized during dry Colorado winter.

I find it's very soothing - especially if I keep it in the fridge!

All six candidate mechanisms we considered, ranked

Ranked by strength of evidence, uniqueness and claim safety. All need Plantd's confirmation and, where noted, a simple test.

  1. "Rich enough for a Canadian winter. Gone before your socks are on." The dry-touch body cream. Pain: lotions that are either useless or greasy for hours (Charity Pot, butters, tallow, petroleum balms). Proof: filmed absorption test and the review count. Name ideas: Dry-Touch Moisture, Melt-Set Base. Fits all six scents.
  2. "13 ingredients. Nothing to react to." Nude as the reactive-skin hero. Compliant: "for very dry, easily irritated, eczema-prone skin", never "treats eczema". The Amazon and pharmacy wedge; fragrance-free is what dermatologists tell sensitive and eczema-prone shoppers to buy R15.
  3. "The cold-cream ritual." A fridge-chilled cream on hot, tight post-shower skin and sore hands. Customers already do it: "straight from the refrigerator … wonderfully refreshing". Zero claim risk, highly shareable.
  4. "Winter-tested in Canada." Origin as proof for northern states (Minnesota, Colorado, New York, New England). A seasonal angle for Meta and Amazon from Q4 into Q1.
  5. "The oil cleanser that rinses like milk, no cloth." A sunflower-oil-first balm (barrier-friendly compared with olive oil R2) with a glucoside emulsifier. The customer line already exists.
  6. "Overnight hydration that's still there at breakfast." Snow mushroom (tremella) plus sodium hyaluronate under jojoba, shea and evening primrose. Proof waits for the supplier dossier.

Supporting layer, never the lead: "from cold Pacific water" (BC red seaweed, Alaskan kelp, kelp-forest restoration with First Nations), regenerative jojoba from a three-generation family farm, glass and aluminium. These turn a purchase into a good deed after the pain is solved, and they differentiate on Whole Foods and Thrive shelves.
