Batana oil — every top-tier static in the window
GetHookd, 2026-09-18. Ads that launched in the last 100 days (on/after 2026-06-10), have been running 30+ days, are static images, and sit in the top performance tier. 22 ads retrieved of 24 matched — the other two were withheld as stale by the tier filter. Every one scores perf 100. No geo filter: many of these carry an empty countries array and filtering on US would have silently dropped them.
The one number that matters
21 of 22 lead the image with price, an offer, urgency, or an excuse for a discount. Exactly one leads with the customer's problem (141983743, “¿Cabello seco y sin brillo?”). Zero lead with a plain benefit promise.
That cuts against our own pain-first rule and against the Obvi finding that the benefit goes in the picture and the discount goes in the caption. In batana specifically, the discount is the picture.

Read this before acting on it
Performance tier is not ROAS. GetHookd's score is built from run-time, duplication and impression signals. Longevity means an ad survived; it does not mean it made money — the same caveat that applied to the Obvi study. A BOGO ad can be cheap to keep alive.
It is five brands, not a market. Silk Hair is 8 of the 22 and Kurinuka 7, so two advertisers are two thirds of the sample. Several are heavy discounters rather than premium brands.
Half of it is not the US market. 12 English, 8 French, 1 Spanish, 1 Galician. The French set is aggressive-discount retail and 132988117 is a Guatemalan cash-on-delivery ad priced in quetzales. US premium norms are not the same.
Every ad is perf 100, so the tier cannot rank within itself. Days-live is the only ordering signal available, which is why the cards below are sorted by it.
What the images actually do
Warehouse logistics is the dominant visual — 7 of 22. Aisles, pallets, forklifts, cardboard boxes, an unboxing flatlay. The product is photographed as inventory, not as an object of desire. That is the engine of the overstock story: the picture is the evidence for the discount.
People are nearly absent — 3 of 22, and one of those is just a hand. There is not one photographic hair result in the entire top tier. Kurinuka's only progression is drawn as cartoon emoji heads (2 weeks baby hairs → 4 weeks stronger roots → 8 weeks fuller) — friendly, and it dodges the before/after evidence problem entirely.
One ad has no image at all. 148231222 is a black field with a typed apology letter and a praying-hands emoji. Perf 100, 34 days. 109841915 and 117528032 are the same move with a small packshot attached.
Nobody shows the substance except Kurinuka. The two frames with the open jar and the real brown batana paste in it are its longest-running ad (99 days) and its tariff letter. Everyone else shows a sealed container.
No in-image CTA button anywhere in the 22. Offer pills and price blocks yes; a drawn “Shop now” click button, never. That independently confirms the v38 call from a completely different, price-led sample.
Bands, bars, cards and seals are the entire device set — red/yellow/orange full-width bars, dark rounded copy cards, circular guarantee seals, brush-stroke strips. Noted as an observation, not a recommendation: it is exactly the vocabulary we have banned for Wonder, and these are the ads that are running.
No ratio discipline. 9 of 22 are 1:1, 7 are ~9:16, and the rest scatter across 3:4, 2:3, 4:5 and one near-square landscape.
The three hooks worth stealing
1 · The price objection, answered out loud. 107028574 is the longest-running ad in the set at 99 days: “NO IT AIN'T CHEAP. BUT BAYBEE IT WORKS!” — then four ticked benefits and a 60-day guarantee. The earlier 45-brand audit turned up Rennora running “IT'S NOT CHEAP.” on the same logic. Two independent winners on the same hook makes this the most repeatable idea in the category, and it is the one hook here that is pain-first and offer-led at once. Our W01 (“FIVE OILS / NOTHING CHANGED”) is adjacent but weaker: it indicts the alternatives without answering why ours is worth more.
2 · The reason-why discount. Four separate ads across three brands justify the price with a story — we over-ordered, tariffs rose, shipping from Honduras doubled, we didn't expect this many orders. It converts a discount from a cheap signal into news. This is the shape to use if an offer ever goes in Wonder artwork, and it fits the pain-first rule because the tension is real and dated.
3 · The illustrated timeline. Kurinuka's cartoon 2/4/8-week progression makes a time-to-result claim without photographing a result. We refused timed claims for Wonder deliberately and should keep refusing them — but the device (drawn, obviously stylised, clearly not evidence) is worth knowing about.
Where Wonder is uncontested
Three things nobody in this tier is doing: photographic hair results (our W07/W08 partings are the only real comparison in the category — which is exactly why the ILLUSTRATION label has to stay), the substance on show beyond one brand, and editorial-grade scene photography with a model. The whole top tier is packshots on bars and boxes on pallets. That is either an opening or a warning, and the honest answer is that this sample cannot tell you which, because the scores are not profit.
