# Independent visual-identity audit — editorial-r1

**Scope:** art direction, visual identity, composition, photographic storytelling, density and rhythm. This is a preliminary visual judgment from the supplied current rendered captures, not a conversion measurement or release certification. I did not read other judge verdicts or design rationale.

**Evidence viewed:** candidate `qa/visual-final/{desktop-1440-top,desktop-1440-buy-topaligned,desktop-1440-formula,desktop-1440-fullpage,mobile-390-top,mobile-390-routines,mobile-390-fullpage,tablet-768-top}.png`; baseline `evidence/v61-baseline/{desktop1440-top,desktop1440-middle,desktop1440-offer,mobile390-top,mobile390-middle,mobile390-offer}.png`; competitor pixels for Ritual, Dieux, Graza, and Needed under `evidence/competitor-research/screenshots/` (desktop top/middle/decision where supplied and mobile top).

## Visual verdict

**Strong improvement over v61; visually credible and distinct enough to review as a premium supplement PDP.** Editorial-r1 meets the requested *inviting* and *trustworthy* direction better than the baseline and gives the product a recognizable, coherent world. It is not yet as unmistakably ownable or as varied in art direction as the best benchmark pages: it sits in the familiar “quiet premium wellness” lane more than it creates the brand’s uniquely memorable signature. This is an aesthetic verdict only; the captures do not establish a conversion lift.

## Material findings

1. **The hero has a real visual premise, not a generic product grid.** In `desktop-1440-top.png`, the near-black emerald text field, oversized high-contrast serif, warm desk scene, and large bottle make an immediate editorial cover composition. The same hierarchy survives `mobile-390-top.png` and `tablet-768-top.png` without looking compressed. This is substantially stronger than v61’s conventional pale, split media/buy-box top (`v61-baseline/desktop1440-top.png`).

2. **The candidate’s product imagery carries the brand rather than merely documenting it.** The sunlit bottle-and-notebook hero, dark-glass-arch bottle still life (`desktop-1440-buy-topaligned.png`), and capsule on reflective green glass (`desktop-1440-formula.png`) are a deliberately related set: warm domestic relief meets scientific materiality. That is more inviting and more sophisticated than Needed’s largely utilitarian product/benefit panels (`needed-desktop-top.png`) and gives the factual product a human scale. The bottle and label also stay crisp at the inspected sizes.

3. **The brand system is coherent, but its differentiation is narrower than the leaders’.** Cream, deep green, fine rules, and the expressive serif repeat cleanly from hero through formula, proof, routine, FAQ, and footer (`desktop-1440-fullpage.png`). Dieux owns a much more singular fashion-editorial typography and almost clinical restraint (`dieux-desktop-top.png`); Graza owns a louder illustration, acid chartreuse, hand-drawn language, and food photography (`graza-desktop-top.png`, `graza-desktop-middle.png`). CHL is more composed than either in supplement-specific credibility, but less instantly identifiable from an unbranded crop.

4. **The formula/proof sequence makes trust visible.** The “Two ingredients” scene places a tactile capsule opposite a plainly legible Supplement Facts panel, then moves into an intentionally quiet proof table (`desktop-1440-formula.png`, lower middle of `desktop-1440-fullpage.png`). The hierarchy feels measured rather than badge-heavy, and is a marked improvement over the v61 proof card with its crowded utility treatment (`v61-baseline/desktop1440-middle.png`). This supports trust aesthetically; it does not itself prove claim credibility or purchase behavior.

5. **The long page has pleasing alternation, but repeats one compositional grammar too often.** Across `desktop-1440-fullpage.png`, most major ideas resolve as a large serif headline plus an image or a rules-based information panel. The first four uses feel deliberate; by proof, routine, FAQ, and the final CTA, the recurrence flattens surprise. Graza’s recipe/review journey shows more image scale, crop, and content-mode variation (`graza-desktop-middle.png`), while Needed varies comparison, package, and information density (`needed-desktop-middle.png`). CHL needs one or two genuinely different visual beats to become more memorable, not extra content.

6. **The everyday photograph succeeds as an inviting bridge, but its role is under-exploited.** In the lower half of `desktop-1440-fullpage.png`, the woman drinking water establishes a believable daily ritual and the small bottle has physical context. It is the page’s warmest human moment. It is isolated, though: the rest of the image system stays almost entirely still-life/product. A second human or environment-led moment would keep the page from reading like a sequence of polished studio modules.

7. **Mobile retains hierarchy, with one visible rhythm break in social proof.** `mobile-390-fullpage.png` preserves the dark-to-cream pacing, clear type, and readable panels unusually well for a long PDP. `v61-baseline/mobile390-top.png` contains a failed/blank media state, so it cannot establish the actual baseline mobile experience; the cross-version mobile appearance comparison is therefore limited. In `mobile-390-routines.png`, however, the first UGC card dominates while the next card is visibly cut into a thin strip. That may communicate a carousel, but it reads more like unfinished framing than an intentional editorial crop and interrupts the otherwise calm page rhythm.

## Aesthetic judgment vs. measurable conversion

The above assesses pixels: hierarchy, visual coherence, perceived care, and brand distinction. It does **not** establish whether the new hero, offer timing, UGC carousel, or product framing will increase sales. No 360px/430px evidence, interaction states, or experiment data were supplied to this judge, so this report makes no release or conversion claim.

## Highest-leverage art-direction moves

1. Make one recognizable CHL motif recur beyond color/type—derive it from the bottle’s iridescent circular label, with restraint—so the brand is identifiable even when the product is absent.
2. Replace one repeated serif-plus-rules module with a more human, environmental visual chapter; retain the current domestic photograph as its anchor.
3. Re-compose mobile UGC so the partial next card reads as an intentional, consistently sized carousel teaser rather than a sliver.
