# A CHL page people want to explore

Cross-industry ecommerce research · 13 September 2026 · Research recommendation, not a new storefront release

## The answer to the brief

CHL needs a more deliberate visual journey. The rejected page contains useful assets and genuine customer evidence, but repeatedly presents them as another heading, another pale surface, another paragraph, another panel. A shopper has to read to discover why the next section matters. On mobile, stacking those sections makes the repetition more pronounced.

My recommendation is to build the next concept around **making the real product understandable and the daily experience tangible**. Keep the existing green palette, photography, product information, and genuine reviews. Change the relationships between them: show a relevant human moment, let the product answer it, reveal the supporting evidence, and make the purchase choice easy to understand. The distinctive identity must continue through explanation, proof, and buying—not end at the hero image.

This research combines community discovery, original design case studies, reported commercial results, and fresh browser captures. They answer different questions. A beautiful site can supply an identity lesson without supplying conversion evidence. A successful experiment can supply a usability lesson without making the entire store an aesthetic reference. There is no defensible public league table establishing which of these stores has the highest conversion rate.

## What the community actually recommends

The most directly relevant Reddit discussions yielded a broader set than the familiar supplement examples. A September 2025 ecommerce thread named **Rains and Snow**. A June 2025 Shopify thread recommended **frank body, Thankyou, and Who Gives A Crap**; its useful accompanying advice was to surface essentials and make deeper information optional. These are individual recommendations, not measured results or community consensus. [Ecommerce inspiration discussion](https://www.reddit.com/r/ecommerce/comments/1n5b6xp/what_is_the_ecommerce_websitelanding_page_that/), [Best Product Pages discussion](https://www.reddit.com/r/shopify/comments/1l8803v/best_product_pages/).

A July 2026 design discussion named **SSENSE, Cuscadecaine, Plantbee, Meridian, and Outlier**. It also contained disagreement: expressive design may support browsing and brand perception, while familiar interaction patterns help people finish shopping. That disagreement matters. CHL can develop a recognizable aesthetic while keeping price, variant selection, subscriptions, and purchase controls immediately intelligible. [Most beautiful ecommerce sites discussion](https://www.reddit.com/r/web_design/comments/1uvoz4p/most_beautiful_ecommerce_sites/).

Another critique of a founder's candle homepage complained about slow movement toward the actual product. The lesson is relevant to our earlier attempts: an elaborate introduction can become another obstacle. A visitor who already wants the product should be able to buy; a visitor who needs reassurance should have a rewarding path to it. [Candle homepage critique](https://www.reddit.com/r/webdesign/comments/1uzm40h/currently_building_out_ecommerce_homepage/).

Conversion discussions were much less reliable as proof. They included claimed gains from fit guidance, ad-to-page consistency, delivery information, and description changes, but generally supplied no controlled experiment. One founder reported improving later funnel steps while fewer visitors reached a product page. We retain these as hypotheses, not promises. ### What the X search did and did not establish

The community sweep retained six indexed X posts, but direct post retrieval failed or returned no readable content. Their strongest relevant lead was a vendor's HikeFootwear funnel critique about a personalized journey ending in a generic result. Most others concerned general UX, SEO, payment flows, or campaign funnels; they do not establish that a named store is both beautiful and highly converting. Eight additional design-specific X queries produced no qualifying inspectable individual post. The source ledger records this negative result instead of presenting weakly related posts as design endorsements. ## Where commercial evidence is useful

These are publisher-reported outcomes, not independently audited claims. Relative lifts are not percentage-point changes. Current storefronts have not been established as identical to the historical tested versions.

| Brand and source | Reported result | What changed | What this supports—and the limit |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [Zalora / VWO](https://vwo.com/success-stories/zalora/) | 12% relative checkout-rate lift | Delivery and return benefits made more visible on product pages | Put decision-relevant reassurance where the decision happens. Public case lacks sample, runtime, baseline rate, and confidence interval. |
| [Andaaz Fashion / VWO](https://vwo.com/success-stories/andaaz-fashion/) | Mobile information test: 109.38% product-page conversion lift and 125.95% purchases lift | Product information organized into mobile tabs | Information structure can materially affect behavior. Vendor reports separate measures; no sample, baseline, runtime, or statistical details disclosed. |
| [GoodwillFinds / VWO](https://vwo.com/success-stories/goodwillfinds/) | 5.16% relative increase in Add-To-Bag clicks, eight-day test | Shorter mobile content; CTA positioned after images | Directly relevant to reading burden and purchase access. Clicks are a proxy; completed-purchase improvement is not established. |
| [GLTC / Shopify](https://www.shopify.com/nz/enterprise/blog/ecommerce-migration-case-study) | 6% conversion improvement over first three months | Migration, redesign, navigation, search, PDP, checkout and operational changes | Broad before/after outcome. Cannot isolate the visual redesign's contribution. |
| [The Conran Shop / Shopify](https://www.shopify.com/case-studies/the-conran-shop) | 54% conversion-rate increase | Replatform, unified commerce, rebrand and agency work | Useful evidence that a broad commerce programme can improve results; not an aesthetic A/B test. |
| [Incu / Shopify](https://www.shopify.com/uk/case-studies/incu) | 15% conversion improvement in first week; later additional improvement reported | Platform, theme, filtering, automation and promotions | Before/after relative claims with multiple confounders. Do not add the reported percentages or attribute them to a particular section. |
| [Peepers / Shopify](https://www.shopify.com/fi/case-studies/peepers) | 30% increase in conversions and 20% AOV | Site imagery/redesign, checkout and shipping motivator | Multiple changes and a contemporaneous Oprah feature prevent a clean causal interpretation. |

The common practical implication is **reduce uncertainty and effort at the moment they arise**. This does not mean every page should become minimal. It means visual richness must help a shopper recognize the product, understand its use, assess evidence, or choose an offer.

Baymard's March 2026 product-page benchmark found mediocre-or-worse performance for 52% of desktop and 62% of mobile ecommerce sites. Its observation of people abandoning suitable products because of solvable usability issues reinforces the need to evaluate actual shopping behavior. Visual reputation alone is an insufficient acceptance test. [Baymard product-page research](https://baymard.com/blog/current-state-ecommerce-product-page-ux).

## Identity references beyond a nice-looking webpage

**Graza** is a useful reference because its distinctive delivery format supplies the underlying idea. D&AD describes an approachable squeeze bottle and playful identity that makes good olive oil an everyday activity. Its 2023 recognition was for packaging, not measured website conversion. The original ecommerce team's case also connects product education, the brand story, and recipe content. That is a product-specific system with multiple expressions. [D&AD Graza](https://www.dandad.org/work/d-ad-awards-archive/graza), [Baggy's Graza project](https://baggy.studio/projects/graza).

**Great Jones** addresses the uncertainty of choosing cookware and the enjoyment of cooking at home. Pentagram's work connects product naming and colors, packaging, practical illustrations, photography, and the digital shop. The identity has an underlying human activity, so its richness has somewhere to come from. The case supplies design rationale, not a conversion result. [Pentagram Great Jones](https://www.pentagram.com/work/great-jones).

**Plenaire, Dally, and Evernow** broaden the reference pool into skincare, hand wash, and health services. Their original identity cases describe systems that extend across physical or service touchpoints and the website. They are useful for studying coherence and category tone. They are not automatically PDP exemplars, and their historical agency presentations are not evidence of their current mobile experience. [Plenaire](https://www.pentagram.com/work/plenaire), [Dally](https://www.pentagram.com/work/dally), [Evernow](https://www.pentagram.com/work/evernow).

Award directories added **SPYLT, Telepathic Instruments, and Partake Foods** to the discovery pool. An award or curated listing supplies a reason to inspect craft; it supplies no conversion guarantee. A page with an exciting screenshot may still be slow, hard to navigate, or poor on a phone. ## How CHL develops its own identity

The customer tension already present in the source is practical: uncertainty about what is in a supplement, difficulty understanding the choices, and wanting a routine that does not become another chore. This is a credible starting point for the presentation. It does not require inventing a new health promise or borrowing a competitor's personality.

The proposed creative direction is **a warm, close-up view of CHL, with evidence within reach**. This is an internal art-direction description, not new customer-facing copy. The page should feel like someone has carefully placed the actual bottle, capsule, label, and customer experience in front of you. Product photography supplies scale and texture. Human photography supplies context. Restrained green annotation connects what the shopper sees to what they need to understand. A familiar purchase area remains available throughout.

Three recurring decisions would make this recognizable beyond the logo:

1. **The same object carries the story.** The bottle appears in a real routine; the next close-up reveals the capsule; the formula detail leads to the actual label. Use existing photographs and truthful details to create continuity. Avoid a procession of unrelated images, each trapped inside its own card.
2. **Proof appears beside the question it answers.** A genuine review about the short ingredient list belongs near the formula; routine footage belongs beside the use explanation. Keep the complete review destination available. Attribution, source links, and relevant disclosures remain readable.
3. **The visual scale changes with the question.** A human scene can fill the width. A capsule can be shown at hand scale. A formula explanation can be a single annotated composition. Detailed evidence can open on demand. These changes should feel purposeful, with typography and spacing held together across them.

### The first mobile journey to design

| Shopper's question | Visual treatment using existing CHL material | Information that stays immediately available |
| --- | --- | --- |
| What is this, and does it belong in my day? | A strong existing routine/product photograph, with product identity clearly visible | Product name, source-supported premise, genuine review count, access to price and purchase options |
| What would taking it actually involve? | Capsule-in-hand photograph and one relevant creator clip, integrated as a single use story | Actual capsule count and label-directed routine; creator disclosure where applicable |
| What am I putting in my body? | Close-up product/label composition with short, legible ingredient annotations | Exact formula and a readable full-label control; important suitability information stays easy to find |
| Why should I trust this brand? | Relevant genuine customer evidence paired with its subject; clear access to actual supporting documents | Attribution and evidence limitations; no invented certification imagery |
| Which purchase option suits me? | Compact, familiar selection controls with a clear selected state | Current authorized price, shipping, recurring terms, quantity, and what happens next |

This is a sequence of questions, not five obligatory full-screen sections. Some belong together. In particular, the earlier routine quote, creator routines, and daily-habit material should stop repeating the same reassurance across three successive chapters. Their strongest parts can form one coherent moment.

### What changes in the next build

Start with a 390-pixel composition and its first several scrolls before extending the page. Choose the strongest existing assets and crop them deliberately. Sketch the sequence as pictures with short captions, then add the minimum copy needed to make each scene clear. Give later formula and proof sections distinct visual jobs. Do not solve repetition by giving every card a different border radius, adding decorative waves, or placing arbitrary objects at angles.

Desktop should use spatial relationships that a phone cannot: a product image beside its explanation, a wider routine scene, or a compact comparison. Mobile needs its own composition and evidence order rather than a mechanical stack of those desktop columns. Motion should clarify a state, reveal a detail, or connect related views. The static page must still make sense with motion disabled and videos paused.

The next concept is ready for broader construction only when its opening, middle explanation, and proof area already feel related and distinct on mobile. A promising hero is insufficient. Keep the research report and the storefront prototype separate so a polished presentation cannot stand in for a usable product page.

### How to judge whether it worked

Evaluate the next candidate with people before claiming an aesthetic success. Ask them what the product is, what they remember, what they would inspect before buying, and where the page starts to feel repetitive. Show the middle of the page without its header and ask what makes it recognizable. Have them find the formula, relevant review evidence, total price, and recurring terms. Observe whether they explore or just keep scrolling past text.

Independent reviewers should compare both mobile and desktop screenshots without being told which direction the builder prefers. Keep disagreements visible. Neither an AI score nor a design award establishes buyer trust.

If the design passes those checks, a separately authorized commerce experiment can measure completed purchases and revenue per visitor, with device and traffic-source segmentation and downstream guardrails. Scroll depth, video plays, and Add-To-Cart clicks help diagnose behavior but cannot substitute for the purchase outcome. Define exposure, sample requirements, and stopping rules from the actual traffic before running a test. This research has not launched such an experiment.

## Scope and evidence boundaries

The discovery pool spans supplements, food, cookware, skincare, apparel, bags, home goods, eyewear, electronics, and household consumables. Named brands in discussions, original agency work, case studies, and award listings were screened for different purposes; this is not a claim that every named store was visually audited. The visual-analysis companion identifies exactly which current pages have readable fresh captures, their URLs, viewport sizes, and capture limitations. Community and commercial ledgers retain author/date/access information where available; missing data is marked rather than inferred.

The existing CHL reviews remain genuine source material. The page's authorized statement is **2,600 five-star reviews**; this research does not create an average rating, star distribution, verification badge, laboratory certification, or new health outcome claim. The current CHL candidate remains rejected. No new storefront design or conversion result is claimed by this report.
